New Advanced Track Opens June 2006
Promising more fun and excitement, the all new advanced track has opened at Skyline Gondola, Restaurant & Luge in Queenstown following a 3 month construction period.
The new track replaces the old advanced track and features 3 dippers, cuttings, smoother radius corners, banked corners plus a 35% increase in length, all of which are proving extremely popular with riders.
The 3 dippers allow for bursts of speed with riders able to carry their speed through the banked corners and onto the next features. Added excitement is gained by the track passing through cuttings giving the illusion of more speed. Non-lugers can take in the action from many vantage points gained via the walking track and bridges over both tracks.
Two tracks make up the Skyline Luge, which wind down the hillside above the Skyline complex, with riders accessing the top of the luge tracks by chairlift to do it all again.
Since the first luge tracks were created in early 1998, luging has rapidly become one of the must do’s for visitors to Queenstown due to its fun, excitement and ease of use. With riders having full control of braking and steering, luging is something the whole family can do, from young children to grandparents.
The Luge has been a success story for Skyline, with operations in Rotorua, Queenstown, Japan, Canada and recently in Singapore.
Home to Queenstown’s most spectacular views, Skyline Gondola, Restaurant & Luge is the most popular visitor activity in Queenstown. Originally accessed by a hardy few on foot, the installation of the Southern Hemisphere’s first gondola proved popular and laid the foundation for Skyline’s place as one of New Zealand’s leading tourism companies.
